Marvel Gallery by Diamond Select Toys has been one of the big joys to collect in my life this year, so it seems only right that we get another batch of solicitations for the line before 2018 comes to a close! This last wave of solicits for the year includes two statues we knew about—and two that are a complete surprise! The Marvel Gallery Carnage, PS4 Spider-Man, Hulkbuster and Unmasked Mark 50 Iron Man are now up for order!
…Wow! Now that’s how you close out a year: with a bunch of upcoming pieces to look forward to in the next year! For their December 2018 solicitations, Diamond Select Toys has lined up for us a whopping four new Marvel Gallery PVC statues that will be arriving in the middle of 2019!
The headliner of this bunch has got to be Marvel Gallery Carnage, which I first saw and reported on way, way back in February at New York Toy Fair 2018! Carnage is actually the very last one of the statues in the line previewed at NYTF to get put up for pre-order, so we’re pretty much guaranteed to see only all-new pieces at the 2019 Toy Fair in two months. Can’t wait!
Joining the long-awaited serial killer symbiote is a previously totally unannounced figure that I doubt anyone expected: a Marvel Gallery PS4 Spider-Man GamerVerse Statue! The concept here is pretty simple, featuring Spidey perched on a wall with his logo on it.
DST mentions that this is their “first” release based on the video game in the solicitation text, which has my suspicions piqued that we’ll be seeing a resin Premier Collection Spider-Man PS4 statue down the road…
Rounding out the quarter are a pair of Iron Man statues based off of Avengers Infinity War. The first of which isn’t a big winner for me, as it’s an Unmasked Tony Stark Iron Man Mark 50 variant of one of my least-favorite releases of 2018. Poor Robert Downey Jr. looks super bored despite the action-packed, dynamic pose. This is a rare definite pass for me.
But what has a good chance of picking up my dollars is the first “Deluxe” Marvel Gallery figure: Hulkbuster Iron Man Mark II! I didn’t love the Banner-controlled Hulkbuster enough in Avengers Infinity War to keep my pre-order for the $300 Marvel Premier Collection resin statue of the armor, but I could easily be persuaded to drop 60 bucks on this PVC statue of it. Hopefully we see a Cull Obsidian figure to pair off with this sooner than later.
Note that this Hulkbuster Gallery Deluxe figure boasts the highest MSRP in the line to-date by a large margin: $69.99. Diamond Select Toys has kept their prices very fair and value-driven for the first several years of this line, but large and bulky pieces like this one simply must not be able to cost out at the standard $50 MSRP.
The Marvel Gallery Gamerverse Spider-Man, Carnage, Hulkbuster and Unmasked Iron Man are all up for order now, and scheduled to ship out between May and July 2019. As these are statues and not comic books, it can be a little tricky to nail down a concrete release date this far away, but DST has been very strong at getting these pieces out around their target windows so far. I’ll be at Toy Fair in February providing full coverage and photos of the Diamond Select Toys booth as always, so stay tuned for that later in the winter.
How do you like the final four Marvel Gallery figure solicits of the year, DST collectors? Will any of the pieces in this foursome be finding their way to your household in 2019? And with the slate now cleaned, what characters are you hoping to see revealed at New York Toy Fair 2019?
